Not many know that anyone who wants to home school their child, can do it.
It is legal and acceptable. There is no long process and it is NOT HOME INSTRUCTION.
Home Instruction is when a school sends work home for your child to do because they are either unable to attend or have been deemed unable to function in a school setting.
Home School is when the parent takes responsibility for their child's education and becomes the teacher and functions in that capacity in all areas. Of course there are places that charge tuition fees to have your child be taught by a teacher via internet but others like myself choice to be the primary instructor.
I home schooled both my sons for six years. I was connected with the Home School Office in NYC, they were issued a school ID, metrocard, and I submitted quarterly reports. At the end of each year I sent away for the state exams ($47.50 each) to test their readiness to move on to the next grade. I mailed the computerized answer sheets back to be graded and each time they excelled and were promoted. I used the internet and the library to learn and prepare my lessons plans, and constructed tests based on the material I covered. They got up at 6am, washed, got fully dressed, ate breakfast and then sat down in the dining area for class. Lunch was at 12 and the day ended at 3pm unless they did not complete their assignments and I would extend it to whatever was necessary. My boys can tell you, I was no joke. They had the regular mandatory classes and I added in black history and bible study. LOL. It is a lot of work but it is a great investment. One son is now in college and the other is an honor roll student at charter school.
Proud and grateful momma!
