I posted this on facebook in July 2016...STILL RELEVANT!
Last week I was walking down 99th Street and Lexington Avenue and a man was basically drooling at a girl passing by him. His eyes were fixed on her backside and he didn't even consider her face or personality. As I walked by he looked my way and didn't see any exposed skin he could lust over so he he crossed the street without a second look. As a self confident woman I'll tell you what I didn't think: wow why didn't he stare at me, is something wrong with me, should I dress more revealing to get attention next time? NO NO NO, I said praise God he knows better than to put his lustful gaze on me and that he is someone I don't want looking in my direction. It didn't make me question my worth; it assured me of his worth and what he values. At Meet Me At The Crossroads young women will engage in workshops that will build their self esteem and teach them what type of attention is positive and what type is negative. Women we are so beautiful when we cover up; meaning no skirts exposing yourself when you sit or bend over, no shirts revealing most of your breast, jeans and dresses so tight they look like skin. My mother used to say leave something to the imagination. I'm not talking about nun wear but lady wear. A woman of class. Don't let you outfit speak louder than you and say things about you that you don't want conveyed.
When someone looks at you what do you want them to think?
